الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَرَاغِيَّةُ

When he left with a full saddlebag

Nígbà tí ó jáde pẹ̀lú àpò-ẹṣin tí ó kún

And departed victorious with success

Tí ó sì kúrò pẹ̀lú ìṣẹ́gun àti àṣeyọrí

I bid him farewell, fulfilling the right of care

Mo dágbére fun, mo ṣe ojúṣe ìtọ́jú

And reproaching him for refusing the governorship

Mo sì bá a wí fún kíkọ̀ ipò gómìnà

He turned away smiling

Ó yípadà tí ó ń rẹ́rìn-ín

And recited melodiously

Ó sì kọrin pẹ̀lú ohùn dídùn

Traversing lands with dusty feet

Rírìn kiri ilẹ̀ pẹ̀lú ẹsẹ̀ tí ó kún fún erùpẹ̀

Is more beloved to me than rank

Ó wun mi ju ipò lọ

For governors have a problem

Nítorí àwọn gómìnà ní àdánwò kàn

And reproach, oh what reproach!

Àti ìbáwí, ìbáwí tí ó ga!
