الْمَقَامَةُ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةُ

عَرَبِيَّة : لَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا مَنْ يَنْطَلِقُ فِي أَثَرِهِ. لَأَتَانَا بِفَصِّ خَبَرِهِ. وَبِمَا يَنْشُرُ مِنْ حِبْرِهِ.

English: If we had someone who could follow in his tracks, he would bring us the essence of his news and what he spreads of his ink.

Yoruba: Tí a bá ní ẹnìkan tó lè tẹ̀lé ipa rẹ̀, ó ṣe é ṣe kí ó mú kókò ìròyìn rẹ̀ wá fún wa àti ohun tí ó ń tàn jáde láti inú tádà rẹ̀.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَأَتْبَعَهُ الْقَاضِي أَحَدَ أُمَنَائِهِ.

English: So the judge sent one of his trusted men after him.

Yoruba: Nítorí náà, adájọ́ rán ọ̀kan lára àwọn ọkùnrin tí ó gbẹ́kẹ̀lé lẹ́yìn rẹ̀.

عَرَبِيَّة : وَأَمَرَهُ بِالتَّجَسُّسِ عَنْ أَنْبَائِهِ.

English: And ordered him to spy on his news.

Yoruba: Ó sì pàṣẹ fún un láti tọ́ ìròyìn rẹ̀ wò.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَمَا لَبِثَ أَنْ رَجَعَ مُتَدَهْدِهًا. وَقَهْقَرَ مُقَهْقِهًا.

English: It wasn't long before he returned rolling with laughter, retreating while guffawing.

Yoruba: Kò pẹ́ tí ó fi padà pẹ̀lú ẹ̀rín ńlá, ó ń padà sẹ́yìn pẹ̀lú ẹ̀rín tó ga.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَقَالَ لَهُ الْقَاضِي: مَهِيمْ. يَا أَبَا مَرْيَمَ؟

English: The judge said to him: What's the matter, O Baba Maryam?

Yoruba: Adájọ́ sọ fún un pé: Kí ló ṣẹlẹ̀, Ìwọ Abu Maryam?

عَرَبِيَّة : فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ عَايَنْتُ عَجَبًا. وَسَمِعْتُ مَا أَنْشَأَ لِي طَرَبًا.

English: He said: I have witnessed a wonder, and heard what brought me delight.

Yoruba: Ó sọ pé: Mo ti rí ohun ìyanu, mo sì ti gbọ́ ohun tó mú inú mi dùn.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَقَالَ لَهُ: مَاذَا رَأَيْتَ. وَمَا الَّذِي وَعَيْتَ؟

English: He said to him: What did you see? And what did you understand?

Yoruba: Ó sọ fún un pé: Kí ni o rí? Kí ni o sì gbọ́?

عَرَبِيَّة : قَالَ: لَمْ يَزَلِ الشَّيْخُ مُذْ خَرَجَ يُصَفِّقُ بِيَدَيْهِ. وَيُخَالِفُ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ.

English: He said: Since he left, the old man hasn't stopped clapping his hands and skipping with his feet.

Yoruba: Ó sọ pé: Láti ìgbà tí ó ti jáde lọ, àgbàlagbà náà kò dẹ́kun pípàtẹ́wọ́ àti yiyan pẹ̀lú ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀.

عَرَبِيَّة : وَيُغَرِّدُ بِمِلْءِ شِدْقَيْهِ. وَيَقُولُ:

English: And singing at the top of his voice, saying:

Yoruba: Ó sì ń kọrin pẹ̀lú ohùn rẹ̀ gbogbo, ó ń sọ pé:

عَرَبِيَّة : كِدْتُ أَصْلَى بِبَلِيَّةٍ مِنْ وَقَاحٍ شَمَرِيَّةٍ

English: I almost burned with affliction from a shameless Shamariyyah

Yoruba: Mo fẹ́rẹ̀ẹ́ jóná pẹ̀lú ìyọnu láti ọ̀dọ̀ aláìlójútì Shamariyyah kan
