الْمَقَامَةُ القهقرية

The ugliness of rudeness contradicts loyalty.

Aburú ìwà ìbàjẹ́ máa ń takò ìwà òótọ́

The essence of the free is in secrets.

Pàtàkì àwọn ò lómìnira wà nínú àwọn àṣírí

Then he said: These two hundred words contain manners and admonition.

Lẹ́yìn náà ó sọ pé: Àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ ọgọ́rùn-ún méjì yìí ní l'ori ìwà àti ìkìlọ̀.

Whoever follows this path, there is no doubt or discord.

Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ba tẹ̀lé ipa yìí, kò sí iyèméjì tàbí àríyànjiyàn.

And whoever seeks to reverse its form, and to turn it back.

Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá fẹ́ yí ipa rẹ̀ padà, àti láti yí padà.

Let him say: Secrets are with the free, and the essence of loyalty contradicts rudeness.

Kí ó sọ pé: Àwọn ìkọkọ wà pẹ̀lú àwọn òlómìnira, bẹ́ẹ̀ni pé ojúlówó igbafa kọdi ìwà ìbàjẹ́.

The ugliness of reputation spreads disgrace.

Ìbàjẹ́ ìwà máa ń tan ìbàjẹ́ káàkiri.

Then on this path, let him follow it, and not fear it.

Lẹ́yìn náà, kí ó tẹ̀lé ipa yìí, kí ó sì má ṣe bẹ̀rù rẹ̀.

Until it becomes the conclusion of its sections, and the last of its pearls.

Títí tí yóò fi di ìparí àwọn apá rẹ̀, àti ìkẹyìn àwọn wúrà rẹ̀.

And the Lord of kindness is the creation of man.

Olúwa ìwà réré jẹ́ ìṣẹ ènìyàn.
