الْمَقَامَةُ القهقرية

And if it rises from its west, then how astonishing it is!

Tí ó bá sì jáde láti ìwọ̀-òòrùn rẹ̀, báwo ni ìyàlénu rẹ̀ ṣe jẹ́ tó bẹẹ́!

He said: It was as if the people were struck with silence, or the command of listening was made binding upon them.

Ó sọ pé: Ó dàbí ẹni pé àwọn ènìyàn fi ẹnu pa mọ́ tàbí òfin láti fetí sílè ti jẹ́ òranyàn lórí wọn

No one among them uttered a word, and no one's tongue moved.

Kò sí ẹnikẹ́ni nínú wọn tó sọ ohunkóhun, kò sí ẹnikẹ́ni tí ahọ́n rẹ̀ yí.

When he saw them mute like cattle and silent like idols,

Nígbà tí ó rí wọn bí ẹni tí kò lè sọrọ bí ẹran ọ̀sìn, tí wọ́n sì ṣe ìdákẹ́jẹ́ bí òrìṣà.

He said to them: I have given you ample time and extended the period for you.

Ó sọ fún wọn pé: Mo ti fún yín ní àkókò púpọ̀, mo sì fi àkókò kún fún yín.

And here is the place of gathering and the moment of decision.

Ayeyi náà ni ibi ipàdé àti àkókò ìdájọ́.

If your thoughts permit, we will praise; if your firing log resist, we will strike!.

Tí èrò yín bá gba, àwa yóò yin yín; ṣùgbọ́n tí òkúta iná yín bá kọ, a wá yóò ṣaná.

They said to him: By God, we have neither the strength to swim in the depths of this sea nor to walk along its shore.

Wọ́n sọ fún un pé: ni orúkọ Olúwa, kò sí agbára wa láti wẹ ní inú òkun yìí tàbí láti rìn lẹ́gbẹ̀ẹ́ ẹ̀gbẹ̀ rẹ̀.

So relieve our thoughts from toil, and let the gift be exchanged for something tangible.

Nítorí náà yọ àwọn ero wa lọwọ ìdààmú, ki ó sì jẹ ki a paarọ ẹbun náà fun ohùn ojúlówó.

And take us as brothers who leap when you leap and reward when you ask for a reward.

Ki o si mu wa bi àwọn ọmọ ìyá ti o nfò nigbati o ba nfò ati wọn yóò fún ọ ní ere nigbati o ba beere fun ere.
