الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَرَاغِيَّةُ

What the wanderings of intellects have produced

Ohun tí àwọn ọpọlọ tó ń rin kiri ti mú jáde

And wherein the young excelled the experienced

Níbi tí àwọn ọ̀dọ́ ti borí àwọn àgbà

Of refined expressions

Nínú àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ tó dára

And sweet metaphors

Àti àwọn àfiwé dídùn

And adorned letters

Àti àwọn ìwé tó ní ẹwà

And pleasing rhymed prose?

Àti àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ onísọnídùn tó dùn?

And do the ancients, upon closer inspection

Ṣé àwọn àtijọ́, tí a bá wo dáadáa

Those who are present

Àwọn tó wà níhìn-ín

Have anything but trodden meanings and sources

Ní ohunkóhun yàtọ̀ sí àwọn ìtumọ̀ àti orisun tí a ti lò tẹ́lẹ̀

Reasonable yet elusive

Tó ṣe é gbọ́ ṣùgbọ́n tó ṣòro láti mú
