Yoruba: Lẹ́yìn náà ó sọ pé: "Wá lo òru yìí pẹ̀lú mi, kí à lè pa ìnà ìbànújẹ́ àti kí à fún ìfẹ́ láàyè lẹ́yìn ìpínyà."

English: "For I have decided to slip away at dawn and set the governor's heart aflame with regret!"

Yoruba: "Nítorí mo ti pinnu láti sàlọ nígbà ìmọ́lẹ̀ òru, kí n sí jó ọkàn Gómìnà náà pẹ̀lú ìnà abamọ!"

English: He said: "I spent the night with him in conversation, more delightful than a garden of flowers and a grove of trees."

Yoruba: Ó sọ pé: "Mo lo òru yìí pẹ̀lú rẹ̀ nínú ìjọṣe ọrẹ, tí ó dun jù ọgbà ododo àti ibùsùn igbó lọ."

Yoruba: Títí tí òfurufú fi tán kárí òṣùpá iru ìkookò rẹ̀, tí ìmọ̀lẹ̀ òwúrọ̀ náà sì bẹrẹ láti wà.
