الْمَقَامَةُ الرَّحْبِيَّةُ

English: And my silver with combustion.

Yoruba: Àti fàdákà mi pẹ̀lú jíjóná.

English: And my radiance with darkness.

Yoruba: Àti ìmọ́lẹ̀ mi pẹ̀lú òkùnkùn.

English: And my inkwell with pens.

Yoruba: Àti àpò ìkọ̀wé mi pẹ̀lú kálàmù.

English: Then the young man said: To be warmed by calamity.

Yoruba: Nígbà náà ni ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin náà sọ pé: Láti gbóná nípasẹ̀ ìpọ́njú.

English: And not to swear by this oath.

Yoruba: Àti láti kọ láti búra pẹ̀lú ìbúra yìí.

English: And to submit to retaliation.

Yoruba: Àti láti tẹríba fún ẹ̀san.

English: And not to swear by that which no one has sworn by.

Yoruba: Àti láti má búra pẹ̀lú ohun tí ẹnikẹ́ni kò tí ì fi búra rí.

English: But the old man refused except to make him swallow the oath he had invented.

Yoruba: Ṣùgbọ́n àgbàlagbà náà kọ̀ láti jẹ́ kí ó mu ìbúra tí ó ṣẹ̀dá.

English: And he made him swallow it bitterly.

Yoruba: Ó sì mú kí ó gbé e mì pẹ̀lú ìkorò.

English: And the dispute between them continued to blaze.
