الْمَقَامَةُ الرَّازِيَّةُ

Boasting of his successful deal.

Tí ó ń gbéga nípa àṣeyọrí rẹ̀.

I followed him, stepping cautiously.

Mo tẹ̀lé e, tí mo ń rìn pẹ̀lẹ́pẹ̀lẹ́.

And I showed him a piercing glance.

Mo fi ojú kan an tí ó ní ìmọ̀lẹ̀.

When he perceived what I was hiding.

Nígbà tí ó rí ohun tí mo ń pa mọ́.

And noticed my shifting gaze.

Àti pé ó rí ìyípadà ojú mi sí i.

He said: The best guide is the one who directs.

Ó ní: Olùtọ́sọ́nà tó dára jù ni ẹni tó tọ́ ọ́.

Then he approached me and recited:

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó sún mọ́ mi ó sì kọrin:

I am the one you know, O Harith, a jester among kings.

Èmi ni ẹni tí o mọ̀, ìrẹ́ Hárìsù, aláyọ̀ láàrín àwọn ọba.

I delight in what does not delight the triflers, sometimes serious, sometimes playful.

Mo ń gbádùn ohun tí kò gbádùn àwọn írín gòjé mẹ̀tẹ̀ẹ́tá, nígbà míràn mo jẹ́ ẹni tó ṣòro, nígbà míràn mo jẹ́ ẹni tó ń ṣeré.

Events have not changed me since you left.

Àwọn iṣẹlẹ̀ kò ti yí mi padà láti ìgbà tí o lọ.
