الْمَقَامَةُ الْكرجية

جعلَت ملامِح عيني تعجمه. ومرامي لحْظي ترجمه.


English

The features of my eyes made him confused, and the aim of my glance translated it.

Yoruba

Àwọn àwòrán ojú mi dá a lóró, àti ìdí èrò ojú mi túmọ̀ ọ́.

حتى استبنت أنه أبو زيد.ٍ وأنّ تعريه أُحبولَةُ صيد.ٍ


English

Until I realized he was Abu Zayd, and his nakedness was a trap for prey.

Yoruba

Títí tí mo fi mọ̀ pé Abu Seidu ni, àti pé ìhòhò rẹ̀ jẹ́ pàkúté fún ẹ̀ran.

ولمح هو أنّ عِرفاني قد أدركَه. ولمْ يأمن أنْ يهتِكَه.


English

And he noticed that my recognition had reached him, and he did not feel safe from being exposed.

Ó sì rí i pé ìmọ̀ mi ti dé bá a, kò sì ní ìfọkànbálẹ láti má ṣe jẹ́ kó tú.

فقال: أُقسِم بالسمرِ والقمر.ِ والزهرِ والزهر.ِ


English

He said: I swear by the spears and the moon, and the stars and the flowers,

Ó ní: Mo búra nípa àwọn ọ̀kọ̀ àti oṣùpá, àti àwọn ìràwọ̀ àti àwọn òdòdó,

إنه لن يسترني إلا من طاب خِيمه. وأُشرِب ماءَ المُروءةِ أديمه.


English

That none will cover me except one with good character, and whose skin is imbued with the water of chivalry.

Yoruba

Wí pé kò sí ẹni tí yóò bo mí mọ́ ayafi ẹni tí ó ní ìwà rere, tí ara rẹ̀ sì ti mú omi ìwà ọmọluwabi.

فعقَلْت ما عناه. وإنْ لم يدرِ القوم معناه.


English

So I understood what he meant, even if the people did not grasp its meaning.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà, mo lóye ohun tí ó túmọ̀ sí, bí àwọn ènìyàn kò bá lóye ìtumọ̀ rẹ̀.

وساءني ما يعانِيهِ من الرعدة.ِ واقشِعرارِ الجِلْدة.ِ


English

And I was saddened by what he suffered from trembling and shivering skin.

Yoruba

Ó sì bà mí nínú jẹ ,ohun tí ó ń jìyà rẹ láti gbigbọn àti ìbẹ̀rù ara.

فعمدت لفَروةٍ هي بالنهارِ رِياشي. وفي الليلِ فِراشي.


English

So I took a fur that was my adornment by day and my bed by night.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà, mo mú irun ẹranko kan tí ó jẹ́ àṣọ mi ní ọ̀sán àti ibùsùn mi ní alẹ́.

فنضوتها عني. وقلت له: اقْبلْها مني.


English

I took it off and said to him: Accept it from me.

Yoruba

Mo yọ ọ́ kúrò lára mi, mo sì sọ fún un pé: Gba a láti ọ̀dọ̀ mi.

70

فما كذّب أنِ افْتراها. وعيني تراها.


English

He did not hesitate to wear it, and my eyes saw it.

Yoruba

kò kọ láti dáa bora, ojú mi sì rí i.
