By the One who illuminated the gray hair and made the soil of Taybah fragrant,
Nípa Ẹni tí ó tan ìmọ́lẹ̀ sí irun funfun àti tí ó mú ilẹ Taybah dùn ún.
If I had not undressed, I would have left in disappointment and with an empty bag.
Tí n kò bá yọ aṣọ mi, mo máa lọ pẹ̀lú ìbànújẹ́ àti àpò tí ó ṣófo.
Then he turned to flee, and veiled himself in gloom.
Lẹ́yìn náà, ó yí padà sí isare lọ́, ó sì fi òkùnkùn bò ara rẹ̀.
He said: Do you not know that my habit is to move from one prey to another,
Ó ní: Ṣé o kò mọ̀ pé ìwà mi ni láti rìn láti dẹdẹ ẹranko kan sí ẹranko mìíràn,
and to turn from Amr to Zayd?
àti láti yí padà láti Amuru sí Seidu?
And I see that you have hindered me and harmed me, and you have caused me more harm than benefit.
Mo sì rí i pé o ti dá mi dúró, o sì ti ṣe mí níbàjẹ́, o sì ti ṣe mí aburú jù bí o ṣe ràn mí lọ́wọ́.
So spare me, may God spare you, from your nonsense.
Ẹ jọwọ, kí Ọlọ́run gbà ọ́, kúrò nínú òmùgọ̀ rẹ.
And close the door of your seriousness and frivolity before me.
Kí o sì pàdé ilẹ̀kùn ìtẹ́wọ́gbà rẹ àti ìdárayá rẹ̀ níwájú mi.
So I pulled him like a playful child.
Nítorí náà, mo fà á bí ọmọ kékeré tí ń ṣeré.
And I shook him for jesting.
Mo sì mì í fún ìdárayá.
