English: Al-Harith ibn Hammam narrated, saying:
Yoruba: Ḥárìsù ọmọ Ḥammám sọ̀rọ̀ báyìí:
English: I was tasked, since the amulets were removed from me,
Yoruba: O wun mí láti ìgbà tí wọn mú àwọn oogun ìṣọrà kúrò lára mi,
English: and turbans were tied upon me,
Yoruba: tí wọ́n sì wé láwàní mọ́ mi l'ori,
English: to be visiting seats of literature,
Yoruba: láti ma lo sí ìjoko ekọ̀ lítíréṣọ̀,
English: and exhaust the mounts of pursuit towards it,
Yoruba: kí n sì lo gbogbo agbára mi láti wá a,
English: so that I might cling to that which would be an adornment for me among people,
Yoruba: kí n lè di mọ́ ohun tí yóò jẹ́ ọ̀ṣọ́ fún mi láàárín àwọn ènìyàn,
English: and a rain cloud during thirst.
Yoruba: àti ìkúùkuu òjò nígbà òùngbẹ.
English: And I was, due to my excessive passion for igniting from it,
Yoruba: Mo sì jẹ́, nítorí ìfẹ́ àṣejù mi láti se itanafon re,
English: and my greed for donning its garment,
Yoruba: àti ojúkòkòrò mi láti wọ aṣọ rẹ̀,
English: discussing with everyone, great and small,
Yoruba: ẹni tí ó ń bá gbogbo Òní mímọ nlá ati Òní mímọ kékeré sọ̀rọ̀,
