الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَرْقَعِيدِيَّةُ

English: I disliked causing harm to people

Yoruba: Kò wu mí láti fa ìpalára bá àwọn ènìyàn

English: Or attracting blame to myself.

Yoruba: Tàbí kí n fa ẹ̀sùn sí ara mi.

English: So I remained in my place,

Yoruba: Nítorí náà mo dúró sípò mi,

English: Keeping his appearance within my sight.

Yoruba: Mo sì ń fi ojú mi sójú rẹ̀.

English: Until the sermon ended,

Yoruba: Títí di ìgbà tí ìwàásù parí,

English: And it was time to rise.

Yoruba: Tí ó sì tó àsìkò láti dìde.

English: I hurried to him

Yoruba: Mo yára lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀,

English: And examined him closely, despite his closed eyelids.

Yoruba: Mo sì wo ó fínní fínní, bó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé ó pa ojú rẹ̀ mọ́.

English: And lo, my intuition was as sharp as Ibn Abbas',

Yoruba: Sì wò ó, òye mi ṣe déédé bí ti Ibn Abbas,

English: And my insight as keen as Iyas'.

Yoruba: Ìmọ̀ inú mi sì pọ̀ bí ti Iyas.
