الْمَقَامَةُ الدِّمَشْقِيَّةُ

Treat the wounds and dispel the sorrows with the wine of the vine that is chosen.

Ṣè ìwòsàn àwọn egbò, kí o sì gbé ìbànújẹ́ kúrò, pẹ̀lú ẹmú-ọ̀láà tí a yàn.

And dedicate the evening drink to a server who brings the desired relief when yearned for.

Ṣẹṣa ẹmú àsálẹ́ lọwọ ẹlẹ́mú, ti yóò ó mú ìsinmi tí a fẹ́ràn wá nígbà ti a bá béèrè fún .

And a singer who sings with a voice that would make iron mountains sway if he sang aloud.

Àti akọrin kan tó kọrin pẹ̀lú ohùn kan tí yóò mú àwọn òkè irin mì bí ó bá kọrin sókè.

And defy the advice that does not permit the union with the beloved when is chanced

Jìnnà sí ìmọ̀ràn tí kò fàyè gba ìdàpọ̀ pẹ̀lú ololùfẹ́ tí ó bá wà

And engage in the impossible, even if it is truly impossible. Leave behind what is said and take what is good.

Rìn nínú ohun tí kò ṣeé ṣe, bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé kò lè ṣeé ṣe. Fi ohun tí àwọn èèyàn ń sọ sílẹ̀ kí o sì mú ohun tó dára wá.

Leave your father if he opposes you. Spread your nets and catch what comes your way.

Fi baba rẹ sílẹ̀ tí ó bá kọ fún ọ. Fí ọ̀gọ rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ kí o sì mú ohun tí ó bá wà ní ojú rẹ.

Be a friend to the generous and avoid the miser. Begin with kindness and keep giving gifts

Jé ọ̀rẹ́ fún aláàánú, yàtọ̀ sí ahun. Bẹ̀rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú dáadáa àti kí ó sì tẹra mọ ẹ̀bùn

Seek repentance before departure. For whoever knocks on a noble's door, it will be opened.

Wá ìdáríjì kí o tó bá lọ. Ẹnìkan tí ó bá lù ìlẹkun ilé alapọnle, a máa sí i fún un.

So I said to him: Bravo, bravo for your story. And shame and scorn for your misguidance!

Nítorí náà mo wí fún un: Kàbọ̀, kàbọ̀ fún ìtàn rẹ. Àti ṣiọ àti ìkórira fún ìtan rẹ!

By God, from which tribe are you? For your enigma has perplexed me.

Nítorí Ọlọ́run, láti ìdílé wo ni o ti wá? Nítorí ìdílé rẹ̀ ti da mí lóró.
