الْمَقَامَةُ الدِّمَشْقِيَّةُ

حتى إذا عاينا أطْلالَ عانةَ.


English

Until we saw the ruins of ‘Anah.

Títí di bí a ṣe rí àwọn ilé alapa ìlú Anáh.

72

قال لنا: الإعانةَ الإعانةَ!


English

He said to us: Help, help!

Ó wí fún wa pé: Ẹ jọ̀wọ́, ẹ jọ̀wọ́!

فأحضرناه المَعلوم والمكتوم. وأريناه المعكوم والمختوم.


English

So we brought him the known and the hidden, and showed him the locked and the sealed.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà, a mú ohun tí ó hàn àti ohun tí àfi pamọ́ fún un, a sì fi àwọn ohun tó jẹ dìde àti àwọn tí ó di mọ́lẹ̀ hàn án.

وقُلْنا له: اقْضِ ما أنت قاض.ٍ فما تجِد فينا غير راض.ٍ


English

We said to him: Judge as you will, for you will find nothing but contentment in us.

Yoruba

A sọ fún un pé: Ṣé ìdájọ́ rẹ bí o ṣe fẹ́, fún ìwọ kò ní rí nǹkan kan ṣùgbọ́n ìtẹlọ́rùn nínú wa.

فما استخفّه سِوى الخِف والزين.ِ ولا حلِي بعينِهِ غير الحَلْيِ والعين.


English

Nothing pleased him except the lightness and beauty, and nothing adorned his sight except the adornments and the coin.

Kò sí nǹkan tó dùn ninú Júù nkan kékeré àti ẹwa, kò sì sí nǹkan tí ó dára ní ojú rẹ̀ ju ẹwà ati owó ẹyọ kan lọ

فاحتمل منهما وِقْره. وناءَ بما يسد فَقْره.


English

So he bore his burden, and was laden with what would satisfy his poverty.

Ó ṣe ẹṣa ẹrù ohùn tó fẹ́ràn, ó sì mú ohunkóhun tí yóò biya bùkátà rẹ

ثمّ خالَسنا مخالَسةَ الطّرار.ِ وانصلَت منا انصِلات الفَرار.ِ


English

Then he dodge from us like a pickpocket and slipped away from us like a fugitive.

Yoruba

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó sá fún wa bí olè, ó sì yọ lọ fún wa bí ẹni tó ń sá lọ.

فأوحشنا فِراقُه. وأدهشنا امتِراقُه.


English

His departure saddened us, and his escape astonished us.

Yoruba

Lílọ rẹ ba wá nínú jẹ, sí salọ rẹ sì yà wá lẹnu,

ولمْ نزلْ ننشده بكلّ ناد.ٍ ونستخبِر عنه كلَّ مغوٍ وهاد.ٍ


English

We continued to seek him in every gathering and inquire about him in every valley and hill.

Yoruba

A kò kúrú lati tẹ̀síwájú láti ṣàwárí rẹ ní gbogbo àpéjọ, a sì béèrè rẹ ni gbogbo òkè ati ìsàlẹ láti mọ ohun tó ṣẹ̀lẹ̀ sí i.

الى أن قيل: إنه مذْ دخل عانةَ. ما زايلَ الحانةَ.


English

Until we were told: Since he entered ‘Anah, he has not left the tavern.

Yoruba

Títí a fi gbọ́ pé: Látìgbà tí ó wọ 'Anah, kò ti lọ kúrò ní ile mímu ọtí.
