الْمَقَامَةُ الدِّمَشْقِيَّةُ

And he said: "I swear by the sky with its towers, and the earth with its paths,

Ó sì wí pé: "Mo bura pẹ̀lú ọ̀run pẹ̀lú àwọn ilé ńlá rẹ̀, àti ilẹ̀ pẹ̀lú àwọn ọ̀nà rẹ̀,

and the pouring water, and the blazing lamp,

àti omi tí ó ń ṣàn gbágbá, àti atupa tí ó ń tan ina gíga,

and the turbulent sea, and the wind and the dust storm,

àti òkun tí ó ń da omi pọ̀pọ̀, àti ẹ̀fúùfù àti ìjì ńlá,

that this is among the most fortunate of protections, and richer for you than those who wear helmets.

pé èyí jẹ́ àwọn ohun tó ní oríré jù lọ nínú àwọn ààbò, tó sì ń ṣe àǹfààní púpọ̀ fún yín ju àwọn tí wọ́ aṣọ ìjà lọ.

Whoever recites it at the breaking of dawn, will not fear any calamity until dusk.

Ẹni tó bá ka wọ́n ní ìlà-oòrùn, kò ní bẹ̀rù àwọn iṣẹlẹ kankan títí di ìlà-òru.

And whoever whispers it at the beginning of twilight, will be safe from theft during the night.

Ẹni tó bá sa wọ́n ní àsìkò ìlà-oòrùn, yóò ri ààbò kúrò lọwọ olè ní aṣalẹ

He said: "We received it until we mastered it, and we studied it so we would not forget it."

Ó sọ pé: "A gba a lẹnu rẹ títí a fí mọ dáadáa, àsi tún kẹ́kọ̀ọ́ rẹ̀ láàárín ara wa, kí a má baà gbàgbé rẹ̀."

Then we continued, driving the loads with prayers, not with poets.

Lẹ́yìn náà, atẹ̀síwájú, a ń darí àwọn ẹrù pẹ̀lú àwọn adúrà, kì í ṣe pẹ̀lú àwọn akéwì.

And we protected the loads with words, not with warriors.

Àti pé a ń ṣọ́ àwọn ẹrù pẹ̀lú àwọn ọ̀rọ̀, kì í ṣe pẹ̀lú àwọn oníjà.

And our companion would visit us in the evening and morning, not pressing us for promises.

Àti pé ẹlẹ́gbẹ́ wa ń ṣàbójútó wa ní ìrọ̀lẹ́ àti ní òwúrọ̀, kì í ṣe wípé ń bẹ̀ wá fún àwọn ileri.
