الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَغْدَادِيَّةُ

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó padà pẹ̀lú ọkàn tó mọ́ sí mọṣálásí tí kò sí ènìyàn.

Ó yọ aṣọ àwọ̀n.

And took off the veil.

Ati pe ó yọ ìbòjú.

And I glimpsed her through the cracks of the door.

Ati pe mo n wó ò láti inú àwọn àlàfo ilẹ̀kùn.

And I watched what wonders she would reveal.

Ati pe mo ń wò ohun ìyanu tí ó máa fi hàn.

When the shyness was removed.

Nigba tí ìtìjú yọ kúrò.

I saw the face of Abu Zayd revealed.

Mo rí ojú Abu Seidu tí ó hàn.

I intended to attack him.

Mo gbèrò láti kọlu ú

To reprimand him for what he had done.

Látí bá a sòrò fún ohun tí ó ṣe.

He slipped away like the rebellious.

Ó yọ kúrò bí àwọn tó ń ṣàìgbọràn.
