الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَغْدَادِيَّةُ

And this that's following me, that you're seeing, his eye is his data.

Ati pe èyí tí ń tẹ̀lé mí, tí ẹyín ń wò yìí, ojú rẹ̀ ní ìwádìí nípa rẹ.

And his translator is his paleness.

Ati pe olùtúmọ̀ rẹ̀ ni ìwọ̀ rẹ̀.

The utmost desire of one of them is a crumb.

Papin ìfẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú wọn ni àjẹkù.

And the end of his wish is a cloak.

Ati pe ìparí ìfẹ́ rẹ̀ ni aṣọ.

And I swore not to put my cheek to shame

Ati pe mo búra pé mi ò ní fi ẹkẹ mí kán àbùkù

Except to the noble

Ayafi fún ọmọlúwàbí

Even if I die from harm.

Bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé mo kú nítorí ipọnju.

And the soul whispered to me.

Ati pe ẹ̀mí mí bami sọ̀rọ̀,

That help is found with you.

Wí pé ìrànlọ́wọ́ wà pẹ̀lú yín.

And the intuition of the wise informed me.

Ati pe ìmọ̀ràn ti ọlọ́gbọ́n sọ fún mi.
