الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَغْدَادِيَّةُ

And earn the long and wide gratitude.

Kí o si gba ọpẹ́ gíga àti tó gbooro.

By Him to whom the forelocks bow.

Nítorí náà, ní orúkọ Ẹni tí àwọn irun iwájú ń tẹríba fún.

On the day when faces are black and white.

Ní ọjọ́ tí ojú àwọn ènìyàn yóò jẹ́ dúdú àti funfun.

Without them, my cheek would not have appeared to me. I wouldn't have attempted to compose a poem.

Tí kì bá ṣe lọlá wọn ni, ẹkẹ mi kò bá má tí yọ, Èmi kò bà ma tí ṣe àyà gbangba sì ewì kíkọ.

The narrator said: By Allah, her verses have shattered the hearts.

Olùsọ̀rọ̀ sọ pé: Mo búra pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run, àwọn ẹsẹ̀ rẹ̀ ti fọ àwọn ọkàn.

And extracted the secrets of the pockets.

Ati pe ó ti fa àwọn ìkọ̀kọ̀ nínú àwọn àpò jáde.

Until it erased his debt of refusal.

Títí tí ó fi parẹ́ gbèsè ìkànsí rẹ̀.

And those we never thought would be relieved, were relieved by her support.

Ati pe àwọn tí a kò rò pé yóò rọ̀, wọ́n rọ̀ nítorí ìrànlọ́wọ́ rẹ̀.

When her pocket was filled with gold.

Nigba tí àpò rẹ̀ kún fún wúrà.
