الْمَقَامَةُ الْنصيبية

To heal my longing with your conversation.

Láti mú ìfẹ́ mi dá pẹ̀lú ìjíròrò yín.

For your companionship is the nourishment of my soul.

Nítorí pé ìfẹ́ yín ni oúnjẹ ọkàn mi.

And the magnet of my comfort.

Àti amúni ìtùnú mi.

So we sought his pleasure.

Nítorí náà, a wá ìtẹ́lọ́rùn rẹ̀.

And we avoided his disobedience.

Àti pé a yàgò fún àìgbọ́ràn sí i.

And we engaged in conversation, churning its cream.

Àti pé a bẹ̀rẹ̀ ìjíròrò, a ń tú ọ̀rá rẹ̀.

And discarding its froth.

Àti pé a ń yọ̀ ọ̀rá rẹ̀ kúrò.

Until the time for rest arrived.

Títí tí àkókò ìsinmi fi dé.

And tongues grew tired of talking.

Àti pé àwọn ahọ́n kaarẹ̀ nínú ìsọ̀rọ̀ wọn ní wọn pé

It was a day of intense heat.
