He said: I thanked him who allowed you to meet the generous noble and saved you from the pressure of the creditor!
Ó sọ pé: Mo dúpẹ́ fún ẹni tí ó jẹ́ kí o pàdé ẹni tí ó jẹ́ aláàánú àti ẹni tí ó dára, tí ó sì gbà ọ́ kúrò nínú ìdààmú èèyàn tí Ó jẹ ní gbèsè!
He said: Praise be to God for the happiness of fortune and the deliverance from the stubborn adversary.
Ó sọ pé: Ògo ni fún Ọlọ́run fún ayọ̀ ìbùkún àti ìdásílẹ̀ kúrò nínú ọ̀tá aláìṣòfò.
Then he said: Which do you prefer, that I gift you with generosity or honor you with the speckled letter?
Lẹ́hìn náà ó sọ pé: Èwo ni o fẹ́ràn jù, pé kí n fún ọ ní ẹ̀bùn pẹ̀lú ìfẹ́ tàbí kí n bọ̀wọ̀ fún ọ pẹ̀lú lẹ́tà aláwọ̀?
So I said: Writing the letter is dearer to me!
Nítorí náà, mo sọ pé: Kíkọ lẹ́tà yóò dára jù fún mi!
He said: By your right, it is a burden on me. For the gift that enters the ears is lighter than the gift that comes out of the sleeves.
Ó sọ pé: Nípa ọ̀tọ̀ rẹ, ó jẹ́ ẹrù lórí mi. Nítorí ẹ̀bùn tí ó wọ inú etí rọrùn jù ẹ̀bùn tí ó jáde láti inú aṣọ.
Then he seemed embarrassed and shy. So he combined for me the letter and the gift.
Lẹ́hìn náà ó dàbí ẹni pé ó ri àbuku ó sì tìju. Nítorí náà, ó kò papọ̀ lẹ́tà àti ẹ̀bùn fún mi.
Thus, I gained two shares from him and departed with two prizes.
Nítorí náà, mo gba ìpín méjì láti ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ mo sì kúrò pẹ̀lú èrè méjì.
And I returned to my homeland with cool eyes, with what I had gained from the letter and the gift.
Mo sì padà sí ilé mi pẹ̀lú ojú tútù, pẹ̀lú ohun tí mo ti gba láti inú lẹ́tà àti ẹ̀bùn.
