الْمَقَامَةُ الرقطاء

So I was confused in my matter.

Nítorí náà, mo dàmú nípa ọ̀rọ̀ mi.

And I informed my creditor of my hardship.

Mo sì sọ fún ẹni tí mo jẹ ní gbèsè nípa ìṣòro mi.

But he did not believe my poverty.

Ṣùgbọ́n kò gbà pé mo jẹ́ talákà.

Nor did he stop pressuring me.

Tabi kí ó dáwọ́ láti má dà mí láàmú.

Rather, he intensified his demands.

Dípò náà, ó mú ìbéèrè rẹ̀ pọ̀ sí i.

And insisted on taking me to the judge.

Ó sì ń tẹ̀síwájú láti mú mi lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ adájọ́.

And whenever I humbled myself in speech.

Àti nígbàtí mo bá ara mi sọ̀rọ̀ ní ìrẹ̀lẹ̀.

And sought from him the kindness of the generous.

Mo sì jọ̀wọ rẹ fún àánú àwọn ọ̀lá.

And urged him to consider me with leniency.

Mo sì gbìyànjú láti jẹ́ kí ó wo mi pẹ̀lú ìfẹ́.

Or give me time until I am able.

Tabi kí ó fún mi ní àkókò títí tí mo bá lè ṣe.
