الْمَقَامَةُ الرقطاء

I only delayed to speak to you.

Mo kan pẹ́ láti bá ọ sọ̀rọ̀.

Just to keep you waiting.

Níkan láti jẹ́ kí o dúró.

If you have doubted my promise.

Tí o bá ti ṣiyèméjì nípa ìlérí mi.

And bad thoughts have tempted you to distance yourself from me.

Àti pé àwọn èrò burúkú ti mú ọ láti kúrò lọ́dọ̀ mi.

Then listen to the stories of my long journey.

Nígbà náà gbọ́ àwọn ìtàn ìrìnàjò mi tó gùn.

And add them to the tales of relief after hardship.

Àti fi wọn sínú àwọn ìtàn ìdande lẹ́yìn ìṣòro.

I said to him: Tell me, how long is your tale.

Mo sọ fún un pé: Sọ fún mi, báwo ni ìtàn rẹ̀ ṣe gùn.

And how terrifying are your tricks!

Àti pé báwo ni ẹ̀tan rẹ ṣe jẹ́ ẹru!

Ó sọ pé: Mọ̀ pé ayé tí ó ń faju ro,
