الْمَقَامَةُ الرقطاء

So we recognized each other then, and two joys surrounded me at that moment.

Nítorí náà, a mọ̀ ara wa nígbà yẹn, àti pé ayọ̀ méjì yí mi ká nígbà yẹn.

And I did not know which brought me more joy and delight: his revealing from the darkness of his travels, or the abundance of his provisions after scarcity?

Mo kò mọ̀ èyí tí ó mú mi ní ayọ̀ àti ìdùnnú jù: ṣé ìṣí rẹ̀ kúrò nínú òkùnkùn ìrìnàjò rẹ̀, tàbí púpọ̀ ohun tí ó ní lẹ́yìn àísí?

My soul longed to uncover the seal of his secret and to delve into the cause of his ease.

Ẹ̀mí mi fẹ́ láti ṣí àṣírí rẹ̀ àti láti mọ̀ ìdí tí ó fi rọrùn.

So I asked him: From where is your return, and to where is your journey, and with what are your bags filled?

Nítorí náà, mo bi í pé: Nibo ni ìpadà rẹ̀ ti wá, àti sí ibi wo ni ìrìnàjò rẹ̀ lọ, àti kí ni ó kún nínú àwọn àpò rẹ?

He said: As for my arrival, it is from Tus, and as for my destination, it is to Susa.

Ó sọ pé: Nípa didé mi, ó jẹ láti Tusi, àti nípa ibi tí mo ń lọ, ó jẹ́ sí Susa.

And as for the wealth I acquired, it is from a letter I composed.

Àti nípa ọ̀rọ̀ tí mo rí, ó wá láti lẹ́tà tí mo kọ.

So I asked him to reveal his inner thoughts to me and to recite his letter to me.

Nítorí náà, mo bi í láti ṣí ìrònú rẹ̀ fún mi àti láti ka lẹ́tà rẹ̀ fún mi.

He said: Your desire is as difficult as the War of Basus, or accompany me to Susa.

Ó sọ pé: Ìfẹ́ rẹ jẹ́ bí ogun Basus, tàbí tẹ̀lé mi lọ sí Susa.

So I accompanied her there by force.

Nítorí náà, mo bá a lọ síbẹ̀ ní tipa.

And I devoted myself to it for a month.

Mo sì fi ara mi fún un fún oṣù kan.
