الْمَقَامَةُ الْوبرية

So he threw away the camel's reins and fled, escaping narrowly.

Nítorí náà, ó ju ìdí ẹrù náà sílẹ̀, ó sì sá lọ, ó sá lọ pẹ̀lú ìṣòro.

Abu Zayd said to me: Take it and mount it, for it is one of the two good outcomes.

Baba Seidu sọ fún mi pé: Gba á kí o sì gun un, nítorí ó jẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ìbùkún méjì.

And a woe lighter than two woes.

Àti ìbànújẹ́ tó rọrùn ju ìbànújẹ́ méjì lọ.

Al-Harith ibn Hammam said: I was torn between blaming Abu Zayd and thanking him, weighing his benefit against his harm.

Hárìsù ọ̀mọ́ Hammam sọ pé: Mo wà láàárín ìbáwí Abu Zayd àti dúpẹ́ fún un, mo ń wòye àǹfààní rẹ̀ sí ìpalára rẹ̀.

It was as if he had been saved from my chest or divined what troubled my secret.

Ó dàbí ẹni pé ó ti gba là láti inú àyà mi tàbí pé ó ti mọ ohun tí ó ń yọ mi lẹ́nu.

He met me with a cheerful face and recited with an eloquent tongue:

Ó pàdé mi pẹ̀lú ojú tó yọ àti pẹ̀lú ahọ́n tó gbóná:

O my brother who bears my burden instead of my brothers and my people. If my yesterday displeased you, my today has pleased you.

Ẹ̀gbọ́n mi tí ó gbé ẹrù mi dipo àwọn arákùnrin mi àti àwọn ènìyàn mi. Tí ọjọ́ àná mi bá ti bà ọ́ nínú, ọjọ́ mi òní ti dùn mọ́ ọ́.

So forgive that for this and discard my thanks and blame.

Nítorí náà, dárí jì mí fún èyí, kí o sì kọ ìdúpẹ́ àti ìbáwí mi sílẹ̀.

Then he said: I am eager, and you are eager. So how can we agree?

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó sọ pé: Èmi ni ẹni tí ó ń fẹ́ràn, ìwọ náà sì ń fẹ́ràn. Báwo ni a ṣe lè bá ara wa mu?

And he turned, tearing the earth's surface, and his horse galloped swiftly.

Ó sì yí padà, ó ń fa ilẹ̀, ẹṣin rẹ̀ sì ń sare lọ́ra.
