الْمَقَامَةُ الْفرضية

He prepared to answer the caller, then turned to bid me farewell.

Ó ṣètò láti dáhùn olùkéde náà, lẹ́yìn náà ó yí padà láti sọ pé ó dìgbà.

I hindered him from leaving and said: "Hospitality is three days!"

Mo dá a dúró láti máa lọ, mo sì sọ pé: "Ìgbà àlejò, ọjọ́ mẹ́ta ni!"

He pleaded and insisted, then headed for the exit.

Ó bẹ̀bẹ̀, ó sì fi ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ lé lórí, lẹ́yìn náà ó lọ sí ẹnu-ọ̀nà.

And he recited as he ascended: "Do not visit the one you love every month except for a day, and do not exceed it."

Ó sì kọ nígbà tí ó ń gòkè: "Má ṣe ṣàbẹ̀wò ẹni tí o fẹ́ ní gbogbo oṣù bí kò ṣe ọjọ́ kan, má sì fi alekun sí."

For the sighting of the crescent in the month is a day, then the eyes do not look at it.

Nítorí ríri oṣù tuntun ní oṣù kan jẹ́ ọjọ́ kan, lẹ́yìn náà àwọn ojú kò tún wo o mọ́.

Al-Harith ibn Hammam said: "I bid him farewell with a heart bleeding with wounds."

Hárìsù ọmọ Hammam sọ pé: "Mo sọ pé ó dìgbà fún un pẹ̀lú ọkàn tí ó ń ṣàn ẹ̀jẹ̀ pẹ̀lú àwọn ọgbẹ́."

And I wished that my night would be slow to dawn.

Mo sì fẹ́ kí òru mi pẹ́ láti mọ́.
