الْمَقَامَةُ الْفرضية

And greed handed me over to its authority.

Àti ìfẹ́kufẹ̀ fi mí lé ọ̀dọ̀ àṣẹ rẹ̀.

So I remained more confused than a Dabb (Spiny tailed lizard).

Nítorí náà, mo wà ní ìdààmú jù àlá ngba (orí pápá)lọ.

And more bewildered than a lover.

Àti ní ìyàlẹ́nu jù olólùfẹ́ lọ.

No passion leads me to achieve the desired.

Kò sí ìfẹ́ tó mú mi dé ibi tí mo fẹ́.

And the pleasure of swallowing.

Àti ìdùnnú tí ó wà nínú ìjẹun.

Nor do my feet obey me to go.

Àti pé ẹsẹ̀ mi kò gbọ́ mi láti lọ.

With the burning of inflammation.

Pẹ̀lú ìnà tí ó ń jó mi.

But the craving and its intensity drove me.

Ṣùgbọ́n ìfẹ́ àti ìgbóná rẹ̀ mú mi lọ.

And hunger and its fervor.

Àti ebi àti ìgbóná rẹ̀.

To seek every land.

Láti wá gbogbo ilẹ̀.
