Then I will return to you immediately, ready for conversation until dawn.

Nigbana ni emi yóò pada si ọdọ yin lẹsẹkẹsẹ, pẹ̀lú ipalemo fun ibaraẹnisọrọ titi di owurọ.

So we said to one of the young boys: Follow him to his family, so that his return may be quicker.

Nítorí náà, a sọ fún ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ọmọdé: Tèlé lọ sí ọdọ àwọn ẹbí rẹ̀, kí ipadà rẹ̀ lè yára.

He went with him, carrying his bag and hastening his return.

Ó lọ pẹ̀lú rẹ̀, ó gbé àpótí rẹ̀, ó sì sáré fún ipadà rẹ̀ kíákíá,

But he delayed beyond measure, and then the boy returned alone.

Ṣùgbọ́n ó pẹ tí pipẹ rẹ rékọjá ìwọ̀n, ọmọ náà sì padà wá ní òun nìkan.

So we asked him: What news do you have about the wily one?

Nítorí náà, a bèèrè lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀: Kí ni ìròyìn tí o ní nípa ọ̀rọ̀ ti ẹ̀lẹtan náà?

He said: He led me through tiring paths and winding roads.

Ó sọ pé: Ó gbé mí gba àwọn ọnà tí ó mú irẹwẹsi bá èèyàn àti àwọn ọ̀nà tí ó yípo.

Until we reached a dilapidated small house.

Títí di pé a dé sí ile kékeré tí ó ti pàrún

He said: This is my resting place and the nest of my young ones.

Ó sọ pé: Eyi ni ibi tí mo ti ń sinmi àti ibùsùn fún àwọn ọmọ mi.

Then he opened his door and took his bag from me.

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó ṣí ẹnu-ọ̀nà rẹ̀, ó sì gba àpótí rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ mi.

And he said: By my life, you have lightened my burden and earned my favor.

Ó sọ pé: Mo búra pẹ̀lú ayé mi, o ti dín ẹrù mi kù, o sì ti jèrè inú rere mi.
