الْمَقَامَةُ الْمغربية

If you wish to compose, then say to the one you revere:

Tí o bá fẹ́ sọ ewì, sọ fún ẹnìkan tí o gbọ́lá fún:

Support the widow when she is exposed, and guard when a person is in distress.

Ran opó lọ́wọ́ nígbà tí ó bá farahàn, kí o sì ṣọ́ra nígbà tí eniyan bá wà ninu ìdààmú.

Support a brother of nobility and be far from the brotherhood of the ignoble.

Ṣe atilẹyin fún arákùnrin kan tí ó ní ọlá, kí ó sì jìnnà sí arákùnrin tí kò ní ọlá.

withdraw from the company of an unjust and troublemaker if he sits.

kúrò ní ẹgbẹ alabosi àti oni wàhálà ti ó bá jókòó.

flee when he rises, and hurl him away when he becomes steady.

sá lọ nígbà tí ó bá rú dide, kí ó sì júù nù nígbà tí ó bá rọlẹ.

Be calm, strengthen yourself, perhaps a difficult time will be relieved.

Máa wà ní àlàáfíà, mú ara rẹ̀ lágbára, bóyá àkókò ìsòro yóò padà gbà ọ là

He said: When we were enchanted by his verses and exhausted by the remoteness of his goals.

O sọ pe: Nigbati awọn àmì ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ ti wùn wá, ti o sì ti kó ìrẹwẹsi bá wá nipasẹ awọn jijina èrò rẹ

We praised him until he excused himself, and we granted until he was satisfied.

A yìn ín títí tí ó fi yẹra, a sì fún un títí tí ó fi gbá tito pẹ̀lú rẹ̀.

Then he rolled up his sleeves and packed his bag.

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó gbé aṣọ rẹ̀ soke, ó sì pálẹmọ fún irin-àjò rẹ̀.

And he began to recite: May God bless a group that speaks with truth and honesty.

Ó bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí í kọrin: Kí Ọlọ́run bùkún àwọn ènìyàn tí ó máa ń sọ̀rọ̀ pẹ̀lú òtítọ́ àti ododo.
