الْمَقَامَةُ الْمغربية

A bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí í wọ́nú ìgbàfà fún ṣìṣòro rẹ̀ àti títí ilẹ̀kun rẹ̀.

And that visitor who had came to us, watches us with the gaze of disrespect,

Ṣùgbọ́n àlejò yẹn tí ó wa bá wá, ń wò wá pẹ̀lú ojú ìyẹpẹrẹ,

And he composes pearls of wisdom while we remain unaware.

Ó ń rorí ọ̀rọ̀ tí ó ní ǹkan ṣíṣe pẹ̀lú ọgbọ́n, nigba tí a kò mọ.

Then when he stumbled upon our disgrace and our drying pool

Nígbà tí ó kọsẹ bá ẹ̀sìn wa, àti gbígbẹ òmi ìgbìyànjú wá.

He said: O my people, indeed it is a great struggle, for the barren to give birth and seek healing from the sick.

Ó sọ pé: Ẹ̀yin èèyàn mi, wàhálà ńlá ni láti gbìyànjú láti wá bíbí ọmọ lọ́wọ́ èèyàn tí kò leè bímọ̀ àti wá itọju lọ́dọ̀ aláìsàn.

And above everyone endowed with knowledge is one more knowing.

Àti lókè àwọn tí ó ní ìmọ̀ jẹ́ ẹni tí ó ní òye tó pọ̀ jùlọ.

Then he turned to me and said: I will take your place and suffice you in what has befallen you.

Nígbà náà, ó kàn sí mi, ó sì wí pé: Èmi yóò gbá ipò rẹ, èmi yóò sì yóọ fún ọ ní ohun tí o wá.

Now, If you wish to speak in prose and not stumble.

Tí ó bá jẹ́ pé o fẹ́ sọ àròsọ, tí ó kó ní kọsẹ

Then say to the one who criticizes stinginess and reproves excessively:

Nígbà náà, sọ fún ẹnìkan tí ó ń bú ahun, tí o sìjẹkí èébú náà pọ làpọjù:

Seek refuge with every hopeful one when united and when wealth is bestowed.

Wa ààbò lọ́dọ̀ gbogbo ènìyàn tí ó ní ìrètí tí wọ́n pọ̀ sílẹ̀ àti nígbà tí ọlá bá wà pẹ̀lú wọn.
