And he despaired of spreading my buried connection.
Ó ṣàìsàn láti tàn ká, ìbáṣepọ̀ mi tí ó ti sin.
As the disbelievers despaired of the companions of the graves.
Bí àwọn aláìgbàgbọ́ ṣe ṣàìsàn láti inú àwọn ẹlẹgbẹ́ ibojì.
So we implored him to recite them to us.
Nítorí náà, a bẹ̀ ẹ́ láti kọ́ wọn fún wa.
And to let us inhale their fragrance.
Ati láti jẹ́ kí a fà oorun wọn sí ìmu.
He said: Yes. Man was created from haste.
Ó sọ pé: Béèni. Ènìyàn ni a dá láti inú ìyára.
Then he recited without shyness.
Lẹ́yìn náà, ó kọ́ láìsí ìtìjú.
Nor did fear deter him:
Tabi ìbẹ̀rù kò dá a dúró:
And a companion to whom I offered sincere affection.
Ati ọ̀rẹ́ kan tí mo fún ní ìfẹ́ gidi.
When I imagined him a close friend.
Nígbàtí mo rò pé ó jẹ́ ọ̀rẹ́ tó sún mọ́ra.
Then I gave him the severance of a hater when I found him a fierce enemy.
Lẹ́yìn náà, mo fún un ní ìyàtọ̀ aláìfẹ́ nígbàtí mo rí i pé ó jẹ́ ọ̀tá tó gbóná.
