They shed tears and tore their pockets.
Wọ́n sún omi ojú, wọ́n sì yá àpò wọn.
They slapped their cheeks and wounded their heads.
Wọ́n na ẹ̀rẹ̀kẹ́ wọn, wọ́n sì fọ orí wọn.
They wish that death had spared him.
Wọ́n fẹ́ kí ikú fi í sílẹ̀.
And it took away their precious ones and souls.
Ó sì gba àwọn pàtàkì wọn àti àwọn ẹmi wọn lọ.
The narrator said: I was among those who gathered with his companions.
Olùsọ̀rọ̀ náà sọ pé: Mo wà láàrín àwọn tó kó ara wọn jọ pẹ̀lú àwọn ọ̀rẹ́ rẹ̀.
And I hastened to his door.
Mo sì yara lọ sí ẹnu-ọ̀nà rẹ̀.
When we reached his courtyard.
Nigba tí a dé àgbàlá rẹ̀.
And we prepared to inquire about his news.
Àti pé a ṣètò láti béèrè nípa ìròyìn rẹ̀.
