الْمَقَامَةُ الْفُرَاتِيَّةُ

Nor a stage left for dispute.

Tàbí ìpele kan wà fún àríyànjiyàn.

The elder said: "You have indulged too much in chatter, my people."

Agba náà sọ pé: "Ẹ ti a ìsọ́kúsọ́, ẹ̀yín èèyàn mí."

And you have stirred up both truth and error.

Ẹ sì ti fa òtítọ́ àti aṣìṣe sílẹ̀.

"The essence of judgment is with me."

"Òótọ́ ìdájọ́ wà lọ́dọ̀ mi."

"So accept my critique."

"Ẹ gbà ìtókasí mi."

"And do not seek advice from anyone after me."

"Kí ẹ máa sì wá àyípadà lọ́dọ̀ ẹnikẹ́ni lẹ́yìn mi."

"Know that the craft of prose writing is the most exalted."

"Ẹ mọ̀ pé ìṣẹ̀dá nípa àròkọ jẹ́ eyi tó ga jù lọ."

And the craft of accounting is more beneficial.

Àti pé ìṣẹ̀dá ìṣirò jẹ́ èyí tó wúlò jù lọ.

The pen of correspondence is an orator.

Kàlámù tí a ń lò fún lẹ̀ta jẹ́ àlálàyé.

And the pen of accounting is a gatherer of words.

Kàlámù ìṣirò jẹ́ olùkójọpọ̀ (oríṣiríṣi ọ̀rọ̀).
