الْمَقَامَةُ الْوَاسِطِيَّةُ

Until he reached in the evening, to the store of stones of the flint.

Títí tí ó fi dì ìròlẹ̀, Ó wá darí lọ sí ọjà àwọn òkúta tí wọn ń fí fọn iná.

He handed the seller a loaf, and took from him a delicate stone.

Ó fún oníṣòwò náà ní akara kan, ó sì gba òkúta kan tí ó fẹ́lẹ́ lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀.

I marveled at the wisdom of the sender and the sent.

Mo ṣe iyàlẹ́nu nípa ọgbọ́n olùránṣẹ àti èèyàn tí Ó rán.

And I knew it was from Saruj, even though I did not ask.

Mo sì mọ̀ pé ó jẹ́ ará ìlú Saruji ni, bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé mi ò béèrè.

And I did not hesitate to rush to the inn, with free rein.

Èmí kò ṣiyèméjì láti sáré lọ sí ilé ìtura, ní ìtúsílẹ

To see the essence of my understanding, and whether my arrow hit the mark in divination.

Láti rí ìtúmọ̀ ìmọ̀ mi, àti pé bóyá ọ̀fà mi tẹ́ ìlà sí ọ̀nà agbègba.

So I am a knight in intuition.

Nítorí náà, mo jẹ́ olóyè níbí ìrina.

And Abu Zayd is sitting at the inn's entrance.

Ati Bàbá Seidu jókòó ní ẹnu-ọ̀nà ilé ìtura.

We exchanged the glad tidings of meeting.

A fi ìròyìn ayọ̀ pàdé ara wa.

And we exchanged the greetings of friends.

A sì pàdé ara wa pẹ̀lú ìkíni àwọn ọ̀rẹ́.
