الْمَقَامَةُ الْوَاسِطِيَّةُ

Then he said: What has befallen you, that you left your place?

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó sọ pé: Kí ni ó ṣẹlẹ̀ sí ọ, tí o fi kúrò ní àyè rẹ?

I said: Time has broken me, and injustice has overflowed!

Mo sọ pé: Àkókò ti fọ́ mi, àti pé ojoro ti pọ̀ jù!

He said: By the One who sent down the rain from the clouds, and brought forth the fruit from the buds.

Ó sọ pé: Nípasẹ̀ Ẹni tí ó rọ òjò láti inú àwọsánmà, tí ó sì mú èso jáde láti inú àwọn èpo.

The times have indeed corrupted, and aggression has spread, and helpers are stopped. And Allah is the one sought for help.

Àkókò ti bàjẹ́ gan-an, ìkà ti tan káàkiri, wọn kọ fún àwọn olùrànlọ́wọ́. Ọlọ́run ni a ń wá fún ìrànlọ́wọ́.

So how did you escape, and on which of your descriptions did you flee?

Nítorí náà, báwo ni o ṣe sá lọ, àti nípa èwo nínú àwọn àpèjúwe rẹ ni o sá lọ?

I said: I took the night as a garment, and traveled in it hungry.

Mo sọ pé: Mo mú òru gẹ́gẹ́ bí aṣọ, mo sì rin ìrìn-àjò nínú rẹ̀ tí ebi ń pa mí.

He lowered his head, tracing patterns in the ground with a stick.

Ó tẹ́ orí rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, ó ń fa àwọn àwòrán sílẹ̀ pẹlú igi.

And he thinks about seeking loans and finding a gift for me.

Ó sì ń rò nípa yiya owo tàbí wíwá ẹbùn fún mi.

Then he shook like one who has gained a catch or found opportunities.

Lẹ́yìn náà, Ó mì bí ẹni tí pakute rẹ tí mú nkán tàbí tí ó ti rí ọnà abayọ kán.

He said: It has struck my heart that you should marry someone who heals your wounds and feathers your wings.

Ó sọ pé: Ó ti kan ọkàn mi pé o yẹ kí o fẹ́ ẹni tí yóò ṣe ìwòsan sí ìyà rẹ àti tí yóò fẹ ìyẹ rẹ.
