الْمَقَامَةُ الدِّينَارِيَّةُ

عَرَبِيَّة : فَكَيْفَ حَالُكَ وَالْحَوَادِثُ؟

English: So how are you and the events?

Yoruba: Báwo ni ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ àti àwọn ìṣẹ̀lẹ̀?

عَرَبِيَّة : فَقَالَ: أَتَقَلَّبُ فِي الْحَالَيْنِ بُؤْسٍ وَرَخَاءٍ.

English: He said: I fluctuate between two states, misery and ease,

Yoruba: Ó sọ pé: Mo ń yí káàkiri láàrin ipò méjì, ìpọ́njú àti ìrọ̀rùn,

عَرَبِيَّة : وَأَنْقَلِبُ مَعَ الرِّيحَيْنِ زَعْزَعٍ وَرَخَاءٍ.

English: And I turn with the two winds, violent and gentle.

Yoruba: Mo sì ń yípadà pẹ̀lú afẹ́fẹ́ méjì, líle àti jẹ́ẹ́.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَقُلْتُ: كَيْفَ ادَّعَيْتَ الْقَزَلَ؟

English: I said: How did you claim to limp?

Yoruba: Mo sọ pé: Báwo ni o ṣe sọ pé o ń tẹ̀sẹ̀?

عَرَبِيَّة : وَمَا مِثْلُكَ مَنْ هَزَلَ.

English: And one like you doesn't jest.

Yoruba: Ẹni bí ìwọ kì í ṣe ẹlẹ́yà.

عَرَبِيَّة : فَاسْتَسَرَّ بِشْرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ تَجَلَّى.

English: So his joy that had appeared concealed itself.

Yoruba: Nítorí náà ayọ̀ rẹ̀ tó ti farahàn pa ara rẹ̀ mọ́.

عَرَبِيَّة : ثُمَّ أَنْشَدَ حِينَ وَلَّى:

English: Then he recited as he turned away:

Yoruba: Lẹ́yìn náà ó sọ bí ó ṣe ń lọ pé:

عَرَبِيَّة : تَعَارَجْتُ لَا رَغْبَةً فِي الْعَرَجِ.

English: I feigned limping not out of desire for lameness,

Yoruba: Mo ṣe bí ẹni tó ń tẹ̀sẹ̀ kì í ṣe pé mo fẹ́ tẹ̀sẹ̀,

عَرَبِيَّة : وَلَكِنْ لِأَقْرَعَ بَابَ الْفَرَجِ.

English: But to knock on the door of relief.

Yoruba: Ṣùgbọ́n láti kán ìlẹ̀kún ìdáǹdè.

عَرَبِيَّة : وَأُلْقِي حَبْلِي عَلَى غَارِبِي.

English: And to throw my rope on my withers,

Yoruba: Àti láti jù okùn mi sí ẹ̀yìn mi,
